Creative Doula
For pairs making something that matters.
The making is the relationship. The work happens in the space between two people who have agreed to make something together. Creative Doula is dedicated attention to that space: the practices, the agreements, and the felt sense that lets two collaborators do their best work together.
Creative Doula is a structured holding space for two high-performing collaborators in the middle of making creative work together — an exhibition, a performance, a book, a body of work that requires both of you. I serve as a third presence: not a coach, not a therapist, not a project manager. A doula. Someone with deep experience attending to what's being birthed and to the leaders doing the birthing.
Drawing on twenty years as an arts leader and master facilitator, I work with the embodied, relational, and creative dimensions that strategy frameworks miss. The sessions surface what's underneath the work — the unspoken contracts, the asymmetries, the creative material trying to come through — and give you tools to keep making from there, together.
The Engagement
Two 90-minute sessions with both of you. One 30-minute individual session for each collaborator. Designed to be completed within 2–3 weeks, paced to match the rhythm of your project. A 20-minute discovery call (free, both collaborators present) is available upon request.
The Deliverables
Holding Phrases: language used when collaboration gets hard
A Making Map: mapping the actual workflow of the collaboration (a minimum of four sessions required for a complete making map)
A Collaboration Guide: noting your agreed collaboration style
90-Day Letter: a reflection and reminder of what we noticed, what we hoped for, and what we are curious about.
Add up to four additional sessions or bring in up to two more collaborators as your project requires. Price assumes Virtual and/or NYC location. Travel/lodging accommodations to other locations can be negotiated separately, if necessary.
